The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) aims to save and preserve life, prevent and alleviate human suffering and safeguard the integrity and dignity of populations affected by natural disasters and man-made crises. Through ECHO funding, millions of people are helped each year in more than 70 countries, working with 200 partners around the world.
The EU, along with its Member States, is one of the leaders of the international humanitarian response to the Syria crisis. Since September 2015, ECHO operates under the mandate of Ms. Monique PARIAT, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management.
